The Land and the People Maraeroa C is a land block consisting of approximately 13,712 acres situated in the central King Country region currently known as pureora. Maraeroa C Incorporation is the trading name utilised by the Management Committee on behalf of the owners of the Maraeroa C Block. The offical name of the organisation is "The Proprietors of Maraeroa C Block" which was incorporated under the Maori Affairs Act 1967 at a sitting of the Maori Land Court held in Hamilton on 18th December 1970. The Management Committee consists of seven elected members two of whom retire by rotation each year with elections held at the Annual General Meeting of the Incorporation. The role of the Management Committee is to administer the Maraeroa C land block in accordance with it's constitution and to the satisfaction of it's shareholders. The current shareholders all share a common ancestry to the tupuna (Ancestor) Rereahu. There are currently 900 shareholders in Maraeroa C Incorporation. The Origins The original Maraeroa Block contained approximately 47,975 acres. The Pou Rahui (Boundary Markers) were named at a Court Sitting of the Otorohanga Land Courts in August 1891 when the Survey Plan No. 6077 was approved. The korero (discussion) was as follows: "Beginning at Taparoa then turning slightly west to Nga Turi o Hinetu, southwest to Pukemako, continuing in a southerly direction to Ketemaringi from here a change eastward to Pakihi. On the Hauhungaroa range and down towards the western bays of Lake Taupo and Tuhingamata. The line returns on a northerly route to Weraroa on to Tahora Karewarewa, up onto Pureora mountain and finally back to where it began at Parararoa. This was Maraeroa in 1891 prior to the partioning of Maraeroa A, B & C.
